Field Operations/Port Security
All legal visitors and returning Americans, as well as sanctioned cargo, enter the U.S. through one of 314 land, air or seaports. CBP's immigration inspections are the initial and most vital components of enforcing U.S. immigration laws and assuring border security.
U.S. Border Patrol
The priority mission of the Border Patrol is preventing terrorists and terrorists' weapons, including weapons of mass destruction, from entering the United States.
Aviation Resources
On October 1, 2005, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) integrated its aviation assets, programs and personnel. With over 500 pilots and 250 aircraft, CBP Air and Marine is the largest law enforcement air force in the world.
Marine Resources
Effective January 17, 2006, CBP consolidated all marine assets, program and personnel and placed them under the newly titled Office of CBP Air and Marine. The marine program has approximately 200 vessels of varying types, including 39-foot Midnight Interceptors and two models of Safe Boats.

Agricultural Inspection
CBP agricultural specialists have extensive training and experience in agricultural and biological inspection. Their historic mission of preventing the introduction of harmful pests into the United States provides CBP with the expertise to recognize and prevent the entry of organisms that could be used for biological warfare or terrorism.
CSI: Container Security Initiative
CSI is a program intended to help increase security for containerized cargo shipped to the United States from around the world. CSI addresses the threat to border security and global trade posed by the potential for terrorist use of a maritime container to deliver a weapon.If you have information concerning possible terrorist use of shipping containers to smuggle weapons or other items, you may be entitled to a reward for the information provided. Please email us with your information at containersecurity@dhs.gov.The Container Security Initiative increases security for containerized cargo shipped to the United States from around the world. There are more than 40 ports participating in the program, representing more than 75 percent of the total of global shipments.
