The National Endowment for the Arts is a public agency dedicated to supporting excellence in the arts, both new and established; bringing the arts to all Americans; and providing leadership in arts education. To help put more muscle behind the mandates for arts education, today the National Endowment for the Arts announces the first round of grant recipients to participate in the Education Leaders Institute. Five multidisciplinary teams from states and municipalities across the country will receive NEA support to discuss arts education challenges at the first Institute March 2008 in Chicago, Illinois. The Arts Endowment has announced awards of $20.2 million to fund 908 grants. The Arts Endowment will distribute $19,189,000 in this round of FY 2008 funding to nonprofit national, regional, state, and local organizations across the country through the NEA's Access to Artistic Excellence category. The President's Committee on the Arts and the Humanities (PCAH) and the National Park Service (NPS), jointly announced the awarding of $7.6 million in federal competitive Save America's Treasures (SAT) grants, which are made in collaboration with the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), and the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS). With these funds, 31 organizations and agencies will act to conserve significant U.S. cultural and historic treasures, which illustrate, interpret and are associated with the great events, ideas, and individuals that contribute to our nation's history and culture.
