The Federal Election Commission is charged with making sure that the Federal Election Campaign Act is obeyed. The FEC is an independent regulatory agency charged with administering and enforcing federal campaign finance law which includes monitoring and reporting of campaign contributions. The Federal Election Commission was created by Congress in 1975 to disclose campaign finance information; to enforce the limits, prohibitions and other provisions of the election laws; and to administer the public funding of presidential elections. The FEC was created as an outgrowth of the Watergate scandal that occurred during the presidency of Richard M. Nixon.

WASHINGTON – The Federal Election Commission this week unveiled a new web page designed to assist filers with the reporting of campaign finance activity, the latest endeavor in the Commission’s ongoing efforts to expand transparency.

WASHINGTON – At its first open meeting of the year, the Federal Election Commission discussed and held over an advisory opinion request. The Commission also unveiled a new web page designed to assist with the reporting of campaign finance activity. The Commission also announced that it is now beginning to provide, in writing, the method used to establish the Commission’s opening settlement offer to respondents during conciliation of certain enforcement matters.
