The White House is the official residence of the President of the United States of America, and has been for over 200 years dating back to John Adams.  It is the oldest public building in Washington, DC and has been the home of every president except George Washington. The White House is the most recognized building in America, is the foremost symbol of the American presidency, and one of the most familiar symbols in the world of American democracy.
